IMPACT STORIES - The Chung Family

Growing up I was always intrigued by religion and the idea of a church community. But as the daughter of an atheist, it just stayed as that- curiosity. Often, I was told that after we die, that is the end. That there is no higher being, humans are the highest being. That Christianity and church was a scam. In my heart and soul, I always knew there was more.

Through life, I had many times where I leaned on God and prayer, but I did it quietly. As I got older and began to start my own family, I knew I needed a community of God believing people in my life and my child’s life. My husband, Dallas, and I had gone to a few churches together, but I felt I was just going through the motions and not actually involved. Dallas was raised in the church but fell away due to negative experiences. When I started attending Discovery, through a recommendation from a friend, I wanted to get involved right away, and he started coming with me. It was the first time he’d really be in church since he was a teenager. Discovery just felt different. The feeling of acceptance was overwhelming and the genuine excitement and encouragement from others was felt from miles away.

After a year of being a regular attendee at Discovery, I have gone through Pastor John's All-In course, have joined multiple small groups, I have been baptized, and I now volunteer with Disco Kids (usually in the toddlers class with our 2-year-old, Ronin!)  and I have spoken openly with my family about my beliefs.

I know this is just the beginning, but I now look forward to all the growth I will be able to do with Jesus and I am thankful to Discovery Church for guiding me.
